The Newton County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) received its American Correctional Association Accreditation (ACA) recertification in New Orleans on Saturday, Jan. 12.

The recertification ensured that the NCSO maintained its status as one of only four of Georgia’s 159 counties in the top 40 in the nation with this honor. In receiving the accreditation again, NCSO was awarded a perfect score of 100 on more than 300 standards during the onsite audit that occurred in November.

NCSO received its initial ACA certification in January of 2016 and has since been asked by other agencies to be shadowed to aid them in their upcoming ACA review process.

“This is a continuation of a great achievement that the Newton County Sheriff’s Office has been awarded,” Newton County Chairman Marcello Banes said. “It is a true testament to hard work and dedication the Sheriff and his staff has to this community.”

Traveling to New Orleans to receive the accreditation were Newton County Sheriff Ezell Brown, 1st Lt. Brice Smith, Lt. Selena Williams, Yvonne McMullen and Banes.

“As the Chairman of the Newton County Board of Commissioners I applaud the men and women of the Sheriff’s Office and all the hard work that they do for this community,” Banes said.
