[ARCHIVED] Be aware of Green Dot card scam

Image of Newton County Sheriff's Office Logo

The Newton County Sheriff’s Office Crime Prevention Unit wants the public to know that if anyone receives a phone call, letter or email from individuals stating that the individual has won money but has to pay on a Green Dot card to receive the money, it is a scam.

If a call is received demanding monies for outstanding warrants, parking tickets or other court proceedings and a request is made to pay on a Green Dot card, it is a scam.

Please contact the local law enforcement agency if you believe you have been targeted by these individuals. For more information, contact the Newton County Sheriff’s Office Crime Prevention Unit at 678-625-1431.
