The Newton County Board of Equalization is looking to add two Alternative members to the board. Alternative members sit in when a current seat member is not available on a particular day. Each new member will have to complete and pass a 40-hour training certification class, taught by the State of Georgia’s Department of Revenue, before hearing any appeals.
Each member of the Board of Equalization is appointed by the Grand Jury. The Board is comprised of individual taxpayers in the County who meet the following requirements and choose to apply for a position on the board: own real property and pay taxes in Newton County; High school graduate.
All appointees are required to complete annual continuing education classes before they are allowed to hear any appeals for the year.
The board meets Tuesday-Thursday of each week starting the first full week in August through the end of the first week in November.
