Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp signed two bills into law that redraw the district lines for Newton County’s Board of Commissioners and Board of Elections.
The new laws (Board of Commissioners) and Act 370 (Board of Elections) place the districts into effect on Jan. 1, 2023. However, the newly redrawn districts will be used for qualifying and voting for the Board of Commissioners and Board of Elections races in 2022.
The Georgia Legislative and Congressional Reapportionment Office created the maps based off populations numbers from the 2020 Census. The maps were then voted on by the state Senate and House before moving on to the Governor’s desk on Feb. 17, 2022.
