As Newton County begins its third week of being open to the public during the COVID-19 pandemic, numbers of positive tests for the virus continue to increase in Newton County and throughout the region.

During a teleconference meeting of the judiciary COVID-taskforce the Department of Public Health reported that a person is most contagious when they are pre-symptomatic and early-symptomatic. This is leaving many feeling it is still safe to go out in public prior to when the symptoms of the virus hit the hardest. Therefore, wearing masks and maintaining a distance of six feet from one another are the best ways to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

It is mandatory to wear a mask when entering the Newton County Judicial Center. Masks are available for the public prior to entering the Judicial Center, Newton County Administration Building and Historic Courthouse. However, due to the amount of people who have been utilizing Newton County Government services since June 15 masks are being given out at a high rate.

If you are conducting business in a Newton County building and have a mask, please bring and wear the mask upon entering the building.

Thank you for helping to maintain the safety of the community.
