NOTICE: HOLIDAY CLOSURES: The Newton County Landfill and all Newton County Neighborhood Recycling Centers will be closed on Thursday, November 11 for Veterans' Day and Thursday, November 25 and Friday, November 26 for Thanksgiving. Citations will be issued against anyone who leaves trash at gates when facilities are closed.

All compactor sites are fenced and staffed and offer specific hours of operation. Recycling bins are conveniently located at all Neighborhood Recycling Centers formerly known as "compactor sites". NO FEE IS CHARGED to Newton County residents when they bring their household garbage, bulk waste and recyclables to Newton County Neighborhood Recycling Centers. Residents who do not presently carry a Newton County car tag should show some form of proof of residency. Recycling is voluntary. County residents are asked to recycle so that our community can continue to reduce the amount of waste going into our landfill. With your help, Newton County has reduced waste going into the landfill by 37.9% since 1990. Neighborhood Recycling Centers are not equipped to handle large volumes of waste materials from one source. Large truck loads and multi-loads of bulk waste will not be accepted and should be taken directly to the landfill. The charge is $30.00 / Ton. When transporting garbage, refuse, or any cargo, use containers, tarpaulins or other devices that would effectively prevent materials from spilling or blowing from the vehicle onto county roads and right-of ways. "COVER YOUR LOADS FOR CLEANER ROADS" Littering fines are up to $1000.00. It is unlawful to dump garbage, recyclables or refuse of any type at the gate of any Center when it is closed. It is unlawful to dump garbage or refuse at any place that is not specifically designated as a waste collection/disposal facility. It is unlawful to scavenge or remove any materials deposited at any Waste Collection Center. |
