MOTION:

To place the following on the ballot for November election.
(Read aloud question for ballot)
“Shall the Act be approved which provides a homestead
exemption from Newton County ad valorem taxes for maintenance
and operations purposes in the amount of
$30,000.00 o the assess value of the homestead for residents
of that county who are 65 years or over whose annual
adjusted net income does not exceed $25,000.00.
Proposed by: Commissioner J.C. Henderson, District Four
Second by: Commissioner Earnest Simmons, District Two
supported by Commissioner Ester Fleming District 3.
Chairman called for the vote
Motion Approve 3 to 2 with Commissioner Ewing and
Commissioner Laster voting in opposition to the motion.
On February 5, 2008, this homestead exemption was
approved by 87% of all the people that voted in Newton
County.
