My Perspective – August 2010 Well, greetings again, everyone. I have four more installments of my perspective and I will be finished with my monthly tales of the goings-on at our Commissioner's meetings. This past July I was not successful in my re-election campaign. It hurts deeply that I was not given a chance to finish some of the programs I started; And it pains me that only 19 % of the voters came out to vote. How can we, as a community, get a fair assessment of the voters’ views if they (voters) won't come out to practice their rights? Well, I could go on and on about this but it is not useful to do so. In other news… · Denny Dobbs Park will have a grand opening on Friday, September 10th @ 3:00 P.M. · The Porter Memorial Branch Library ison track to open in January 2011. Now to the“Liquor by the Drink “issue. My view of the liquor by the drink issue is the same as it was when the Board of Commissioners held a Retreat in February: · We should hold a public forum. · A public forum allows the people of the County to give their views and opinions about a proposed ordinance. Afterwards, as a Board, we can place it on the agenda for a vote. · This did not happen. · We had a work session on Monday August 2nd and the public was never allowed to speak. · The initiative was placed on the agenda for action at our board meeting on Tuesday August 3rd. · The public was to be given a chance to speak only AFTER the petition was voted on. This I thought was unfair. · This issue may come back before the Board in March 2011. I wish it luck. I will be back next month for another installment.
Sincerely,
Commissioner Simmons
