The elected district attorney serves both of these counties and maintains an office in each. The Newton County District Attorney's Office staff consists of three general criminal litigation assistant district attorney's, one special drug prosecutor, one special juvenile prosecutor, two investigators, four full-time secretaries and one part-time secretary, and a director of victim services. The Newton County District Attorney's Office, with the exception of certain minor traffic offenses, is responsible for prosecuting all criminal cases in Newton County involving violations of state law, both misdemeanor and felony crimes. This office processes over 3000 criminal warrants each year which result in the filing of approximately 1000 formal indictments and accusations annually. |
