Saturday, January 5--"Bring One for the Chipper" Christmas tree recycling event-- Newton County residents are invited to bring their trees to Home Depot, 13171 Industrial Park Boulevard, Covington, GA 30014 or to any Neighborhood Recycling Center on Saturday, January 5 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Trees will be chipped into mulch used for public beautification projects or offered to citizens free of charge. In appreciation of their recycling efforts, participants will receive a free dogwood seedling. (Recycling Centers will accept trees any day, but seedlings will be available January 5 only, while supplies last. Home Depot will accept trees only on January 5.) Saturday, January 5--"E-Cycle & Paint/Pesticide Recycling"-- Recycle household electronics and paint and dispose of pesticides on Saturday, January 5 (and on the first Saturday of each month) from 8:00 a.m. to noon at the Newton County Landfill. Free to Newton County residents only. No TVs accepted. No commercial wastes accepted! Call 770-786-5808 for more information. February 8—Deadline for River of Words Poetry & Art Contest–Keep Covington/Newton Beautiful invites Elementary School, Middle School, High School, and College students to submit poetry and art about rivers and other bodies of water to be judged.
