Volunteer Firefighter, Operational

This is a volunteer position.
Performs responsible work related to fire suppression, emergency medical care, fire prevention education, rescue, and hazardous materials response.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
All candidates selected to fill a volunteer firefighter post in this classification must submit to and pass a drug-screening test after meeting the following minimum requirements:
- Must possess a high school diploma or GED
- Must be able to pass a mandated fire department physical examination.
Education and Experience:
Any combination of education, training and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities, required for the job.
Licenses and Certifications:
A valid automobile driver's license.
Required certifications to be obtained and maintained throughout service within 12 months of appointment:
- National Professional Qualifications Board (Pro Board) Firefighter I Certification
- FEMA National Incident Management System ICS-100, ICS-200 IS-700, and IS-800 certificates.
- American Heart Association BLS CPR certification.
All of the above training will be provided to volunteer recruits at no cost. This training will be provided in-house to any person appointed to the force.
Willingness to obtain and maintain as required by the department:
- NREMT Basic and State of Georgia EMS Licensure.
Volunteer Duty Requirements
After initial training, all volunteers will be required to maintain eligibility for duty. Each member should be prepared to document no less than 24 hours per month of in-station ride-along duties for the calendar year. This requirement can be further explained by the Volunteer Coordinator.
WORK CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:
While performing essential functions of this position, volunteer is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions, work in high precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outdoor weather conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, and flame, blood, airborne pathogens and hostile or offensive patients.
Working conditions are typically quiet but may become very loud responding to emergency calls and at the scene of a fire or other emergency.
