Newton County is placing 50 signs to encourage safety for cyclers on the road throughout the County in partnership with the Covington Conyers Cycling Club.
The cycling club wants to create 300 miles of safe roadways throughout Newton, Rockdale, Walton and Jasper counties for all cyclists to enjoy.
Newton County began placing the signs this week to help bring awareness to drivers of cyclers sharing the road and to be welcoming for those who wish to enjoy the sport of cycling in Newton County.
“Working to support trails of all kinds is not only part of our Strategic Plan but it also brings another amenity and shines another light on our County,” said Newton County Chairman Marcello Banes. “By just placing some signs on our roads we have shown that we support trails, are encouraging added quality of life and giving providing a safe and secure environment for those living in and traveling to Newton County. By hitting so many points of our Strategic Plan this was a no-brainer and I am excited to see all cyclists, including the Covington Conyers Cycling Club on our roads.”
