Landfill
The landfill is for the use of Newton County residents and commercial disposers only. Out of county waste is prohibited from disposal at the Newton County Landfill by county ordinance.
With the exception of most Newton County holidays the landfill is open Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Newton County holidays in which the landfill and convenience centers will be closed for FY2020:
The Newton County Convenience Centers will be closed Monday, Dec. 30 as normally scheduled and will be closed Tuesday, Dec. 31 and Wednesday, Jan. 1 for the New Year’s holiday. All Newton County centers will reopen Thursday, Jan. 2.
The Newton County landfill is open Monday, Dec. 31 and will close at noon on Tuesday, Dec. 31 and all day Wednesday, Jan. 1. The landfill will reopen on Thursday, Jan. 2.

There is a $15 minimum charge per visit, which pays for up to 750 pounds. For loads more than 750 pounds, the tipping fee is $40 per ton. Except for electronics and paint, there is no recycling at the landfill. All recycling is conducted at the County’s Convenience Centers.
Accepted forms of payment: cash, credit card or check.
Household Electronics
Recycle household electronics and dispose of unwanted paint (residential only, no commercial) on the first Saturday of each month from 8 a.m. to noon at the Newton County Landfill.

- Batteries-Lithium Ion and NiCad (tool bat only)
- Boards-HG, LG, and MG
- CD-ROM and Floppy Drives
- Computer Fans
- Hard Drives-Shredded and Whole
- Heat Sink
- Hubs and Routers
- Laptops-Complete and Incomplete
- LCD Monitors with no blemishes
- Memory-Gold and Silver
- Modems
- PCs - Complete and Incomplete
- Power Supply with wire
- Processors
- UPS
Unacceptable Items
Used motor oil, used transmission fluid and spent engine cleaner are not accepted. These all may be recycled at your local auto parts store.
